A facility where plants are intentionally exposed to gamma radiation (often from a Cobalt-60 source) to induce beneficial mutations, creating new, improved crop varieties with desirable traits like disease resistance or higher yields, a practice used since the 1950s for developing new foods and materials; llants are arranged in concentric circles, with radiation levels decreasing further from the central source, leading to different effects: death near the source, severe abnormalities in the middle, and useful mutations (like better fruit or stress tolerance) in the outer rings.
