Conanicut Island

短语

释义与例句

name
  1. 1.

An island of Narragansett Bay, Rhode Island, United States, comprising the populated part of Jamestown.

词源

From Narragansett, said to be named after chief Canonicus. The name Canonicus is in turn a Latinization of Qunnouone, which has been said to be from *qunni (“long, tall”). The ending -ut indicates the locative. Some sources directly translate Conanicut as "long place".
