A secularist view of animals’ rights,” The Humane Review, London: Ernest Bell, January, 1904, pp. 305-306, The first book of the Bible gives man absolute dominion over the lower animals; and in the story of Cain and Abel we see the Jehovian preference for the sacrifice of animals rather than the peaceful tribute of the fruits of the earth—a preference which ran through the whole Mosaic Law, and befouled the Temple altars with perpetual blood.
